In late 2020, we were given the opportunity to work with London based start up, Vunch, as they launched their vegan cafe. We were briefed with creating a futuristic, tech-driven brand that would be at home in California as much as it would be in London.
After developing a strong relationship with Vunch, we have since offered consultation on how they can keep their packaging stylish but sustainable and also supplied design and fitting of internal and external signage.
The Brand
Beginning with the logo. We were asked to work with a colour palette of dark blue, green, yellow and white. Step 1 was to simplify this to three colours. A stylish and subtle matte blue to represent damp soil, a striking green to represent growing plants and white for a traditional contrast.
A bold, simple font was required to represent the company values of good, simple food and bold ethical values.
Early iterations featured more detail including knife and fork graphic and text 'vegan cafe'. However we believed the final design was strong enough to communicate the message without the clutter of further information.
Eco-friendly and Economical
Investing in vegan and sustainable processes is expensive, so the budget for packaging was limited. We offered expertise to source materials that fit the budget, sustainability targets and carried a strong brand image.
Instead of a considerable outlay on branded cups and bags, we suggested coffee cups with recycled heat sleeves and recycled paper bags. These are branded in house using a resuable logo stamp with vegan friendly eco-inks.
We installed a 'paperless business card'. A large acrylic sheet printed with a business card design, mounted on the wall. If customers want a card, they will be asked to take a photo of the acrylic sign, preventing any need to print cards.
Other contributions included kraft paper loyalty cards and recycled cork coasters. Both printed using the same eco-friendy stamps and ink.
Marketing with Attitude
From day one Vunch has not been afraid to rock the boat. So their marketing should reflect this.
As a company investing in the future, Vunch needs to attract the social media generation. So packaging and marketing materials needed to be snappy and cheeky. Our two favourites are the launch tag line of 'It's Vunch Time' and 'Squeeze me I'm vegan' smoothie and juice cups. Both have been incredbily popular on social media.
We contributed two feature 'selfie walls' in the cafe which proclaim "Good times shouldn't cost the Earth" and "What have you done today?". Both designed to make you think about your impact and feel also to reassure you Vunch are at the forefront of protecting our future.
Consistent Signage
In this project we covered all services beginning with branding all the way through to print and signage.
As the brand image was strong, we felt it was important we were involved in the interiors to ensure the colours and style was consistent.
Including the following:
Window/door vinyl graphics
Wall vinyl graphics
Digital menu design
Coffee machine vinyl graphics
Counter and till graphics
Fridge vinyl graphics
Outdoor backlit sign
Sandwich board graphics
